PRAGUE: The FAMU in Prague plans to introduce a new department specialised in video games design, as the Czech Republic is today one of the major video games developers.
The new department will be introduced in two years as a master’s degree, according to the local media.
Video games are one of the most important contemporary Czech cultural export items. In 2016 domestic developers released more than 30 new games and over 50 development teams are active in the country. Several domestic studios keep creating games which become popular worldwide and collect prizes. New independent studios are on the rise.
The development of video games in the Czech Republic generates an annual turnover of around 992.45m EUR / 2.5 billion CZK, according to the Czech Press Agency.
