Czech Minister of Culture to Resign

By

PRAGUE: The Czech Minister of Culture Antonin Stanek announced on 15 May 2019 that he will resign after less than one year in his post. His resignation will be effective at the end of the month.

Stanek had been the object of criticism following his firing of the popular director of the National Gallery, which was protested both nationally and internationally. His announcement noted that he had been requested to step down by the head of his political party.

A new minister is expected to be announced by the end of May.
