The biggest festival of Czech films begins

    This year for the first time the festival Finále commences on Sunday 19th April instead of Monday and will continue until Saturday 25th April. A whole week is in Plzeň dedicated to Czech film, the celebration of Czech film and searching for connections.

    Already for the twenty-second time the visitors can look forward to not only actors films, which had their premiere in the last festival year, from April 2008 to April 2009, but also to a selection of new Czech documentaries. A list of current film production will be enriched by a number of other section, seminars, discussions and unusual screenings. In the archive part of the festival goes back to an unsettled year 1969. "Silent Masterpiece" - section of exceptionally interesting films, made in the nineties of the last century have also been prepared, as well as a great retrospective tribute to director Věra Chytilová. Finále also prepared a tribute to one of the most distinctive Czech directors František Vláčil and it will not forget to mention other important film people celebrating their personal jubilees. In total more than 150 short and long-footage films will be screened. The centre of festival happening is Měšťanská Beseda in Plzeň and some screenings also take place in multiplex Cinema City Plzeň. Those who want to have a rest from the dimness of screening halls can do so by attending the varied accompanying programme such as open air screenings, exhibitions and concerts. A selection of festival films will also be screened during Finále in Prague, in cinema Evald.
