Barrandov Studios boasts largest film stage in Europe

By

Barrandov Studios now can lay claim to the largest film stage in Europe, with the opening this month of a complex of three new soundproof film stages. Construction began this spring and cost more than 100 million crowns (€3.8 million).

"Without a doubt, the new construction is the most extensive investment the Czech film industry has seen during the past 60 years," Tomas Chrenek, chairman of Barrandov's board of directors, said in a statement on Nov. 12. "Thanks to this increase in capacity, Barrandov Studios has significantly strengthened its leading position amongst film studios, not only in Europe."

The complex consists of two stages measuring 1,000 square meters apiece with a height of 12 meters, with a third stage - the largest - spreading over 2,000 square meters. All stages can be interconnected to create one large stage that is 98.5 meters long and almost 4,000 square meters in area.

A large parking area will be completed next to the complex during the next few weeks.
