The movie's screenplay by Hrebejk´s fellow screenwriter Petr Jarchovský, won the prestigous Sazka Award.
One part of the story from contemporary Prague was shot in Göteborg, Sweden, a city that inspired screenwriter Jarchovský to write the story.
"Its a beautiful, photogenic city with such a huge genius loci in it, combination of its history and open sea horizon is icredible for me," Jarchovský said. The film crew spent 10 days in Sweden. The rest of the movie was shot in the Czech Republic.
Hrebejk´s newest film is slightly different from his previous movies (typically comedies such as Shameless and Teddy Bear). "It's a family drama about a serious controversy between an elderly father and his son-in-law; a story of individual memory, guilt and punishment, about the conscience of everyone of us," Hřebejk said.
Slovak actor Ladislav Chudík, who celebrated his 85th birthday last May, plays the main character. Martin Huba, Lenka Vlasáková and Daniela Kolářová are also cast in Kawasaki´s Roses.
Rudolf Biermann and Tomáš Hoffman are producing Kawasaki with their companies Infilm and Infinity and noted musician Aleš Březina is writing the music for that film. Distributor Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz) released the movie in the Czech Republic.
