FNE at Finale Plzen: Kawasaki's Rose wins Finale Plzen festival

Director Jan Hřebejk picked up the Golden Kingfisher for best feature film and the Audience Award for Kawasaki's Rose at the closing ceremony of Finale festival of Czech films held in Plzen on Friday, April 23.

The award was given for the director's emotional interpretation of the story about the consequences of the recent past on human relations and lives, and especially for several excellent film scenes, featuring great acting performances (IN Film Praha, This email address is being protected from spambots. A special award went to Walking Too Fast (Bionaut Film, directed by Radim Špaček, for a precise picture of the gloomy atmosphere of the 1980's and creating a character which impersonates the senseless brutality of a political system. The film's lead actor Ondřej Malý, playing a secret police officer, won the festival's award for best acting.

The international jury of feature films together with the Foundation of Dagmar and Václav Táborský further conferred the award of Dagmar Táborská for the most original documentary made by a female author under the age of 35 on film Memory of Snovídky directed by Kateřina Krusová for creating a non-moralising film story about unpopular moral values. The international jury of feature films together with the Foundation of Dagmar and Václav Táborský further conferred the award of Václav Táborský for the best documentary made by an author under the age of 35 on film 59/184/84 directed by Lukáš Kokeš for his merry interpretation of a sad topic and for his strong and decisive approach to direction.

The Golden Kingfisher in the best documentary category was given to Land of Destiny ( directed by Pavel Kolaja. The jury noted that the author relied not only on a mere documentation of the magic of professor. Vyskočil' s personality, but also dutifully created his own film method, which reflected the mental processes of the main character.

A special award went to Phantom of Liberty II directed by Karel Žalud for its bold step beyond the borders of documentary genre and for experimentation with film time.

The annual award of the Association of Czech Film Clubs for the best feature film (AČFK) was conferred on Protektor (Negativ, directed bt Marek Najbrt. The AČFK award for the best documentary film was won by Forgotten Transport to Poland directed bt Lukáš Přibyl.

The ceremony was broadcast on Czech TV channel 2.
