AniFest Grand Prix for France

    Directors Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud won both the Grand Prix and the Best Feature prize for French entry Persepolis at the closing ceremony of the seventh annual AniFest in Trebon on May 12.

    The Czech festival of animated films gave a Best Very Short Film prize to Matthew Walker of Great Britain for John and Karen. Jury mentions went to Israel for Sandbox and Hungary for KJFG NO. 5 directed by Aleksey Alekseev. Best Short Film was awarded to Franz Kafka's Country Doctor from Japan, with a jury special mention to Hare and the Servant from Russian director Elena Chernova. The Czechs claimed one prize, best internet animation, going to Jaromir Plachy for The Clod.

    AniFest attracted some 35,000 viewers, and increase of more than 50% over 2007's attendance. The festival screened 633 films and accredited 1179 people, including 369 film professionals.
