Tartu to Launch Estonia’s Second Regional Fund

By

TARTU: Tartu, the second largest city in Estonia is setting up a regional film fund for incoming productions. The fund is initially budgeted at approximately 100,000 EUR annually and is part of an ambitious initiative aimed at turning Tartu into the country’s main film hub.

The fund will be financed from the city's budget and will aim at luring feature films and TV productions from both Estonia and abroad. Tartu Film Fund will be handled by the Tartu Centre for Creative Industries, a body founded by the city and partly financed by Enterprise Estonia.

The years 2014-15 are scheduled as pilot years for the fund which is expected to work as a cash rebate of up to 10-20% of locally incurred costs. No application rounds have been announced yet. The first regional fund in Estonia, Viru Film Fund, was launched in 2013 with an annual budget of 20-30,000 EUR, provided by four local counties.
