PRODUCTION: Dearest Sister Brings Estonia, Laos and France Together

By

VIENTIANE: Oree Films embarks on Estonia's first ever co-production with Laos and France on the set of Dearest Sister, a supernatural drama set in Laos’ capital Vientiane. The film is budgeted at 300,000 euros and will be shot in late Spring 2015, with the release date set in 2016.

The film is produced and directed by Mattie Do from Lao Art Media, Annick Mahnert from Screen Division and Sten-Kristian Saluveer and Helen Lõhmus from Oree Films. The feature’s international rights have been picked up by Toronto-based Raven Banner Entertainment, while genre specialist XYZ represents the film in the US.

The film tells the story of a village girl travelling to Vientiane to care for her blind cousin who can somehow communicate with the dead and is married to an expat Estonian with secrets of his own. Music and radio performer Vilouna Phetmany and Estonia's Tambet Tuisk star in the feature.

The DoP was Mart Ratasepp with a mixed European and Lao crew. Postproduction will take place in France and Estonia. Mattie Do is the first female feature director in Laos.
