GRANTS: Estonia Announces Grants for Jubilee Films

    TALLINN: The Estonian Film Institute today announced grants for six film projects that are designated for screening during the Republic of Estonia’s 100th anniversary in 2018.

    A total of 165 ideas were put forward during the original call in 2012 and narrowed down in numbers during development in subsequent years. Five of the films are feature film debuts for directors. In all, 8 m EUR will be distributed among the selected projects, but no amounts have been announced as of yet.

    The chosen films are:

    Truth and Justice / Tõde ja õigus
    Directed by Tanel Toom
    Produced by Ivo Felt and Madis Tüür of Allfilm
    Based on a classic novel by A.H. Tammsaare

    Comrade Child / Seltsimees laps
    Directed by Moonika Siimets
    Pproduced by Riina Sildos of Amrion
    Set in Soviet era and based on an autobiographic novel by Estonian poet Leelo Tungal

    Jaan from Hell / Põrgu Jaan
    Directed by Kaur Kokk
    Produced by Katrin Kissa of Homeless Bob Productions
    Set in the early 18th century of wars, famine and plague

    Take it or Leave it / Võta või jäta
    Directed by Liina Trishkina-Vanhatalo
    Produced by Ivo Felt of Allfilm
    Set in contemporary Estonia

    Lotte and the Lost Dragons / Lotte ja kadunud lohed
    Directed by Janno Põldma and Heiki Ernits
    Produced by Kalev Tamm of Eesti Joonisfilm
    A sequel to the Lotte animated films

    The Princess, the Page and Felix / Printsess, Paaž ja Felix
    Directed by Raimo Jõerand
    Produced by Marju Lepp and Manfred Vainokivi of Filmivabrik
    Set during Estonia’s War of Independence and based on the story of the literary circle Siuru

    All titles are working titles at this time.
