TALLINN: Freedom, a drama from Jan Speckenbach exploring the issue of loss and the search for identity, was presented at Baltic Works in Progress hosted by Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn.
Freedom follows the story of an accomplished woman living in Vienna with her family, who suddenly decides to leave everything and disappear.
"The director had a similar case in his close family and that's why the topic of disappearance and the experience of loss is coming back into his works," producer Jamila Wenske of One Two Films told FNE. Freedom is a coproduction between Germany’s One Two Films and Slovakia’s BFilms with a budget of 600,000 EUR with 65,000 EUR from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund.
“The production started in 2014 and we are shooting through a period of two years, so that we can show the children of the protagonist as they change and mature. We want to achieve a mini-Boyhood effect. We are currently looking for foreign distribution," Webske told FNE.
The script is co-written by Jan Speckenbach and Andreas Deinert the cast includes Johanna Wokalek, Hans-Jochen Wagner and Inga Birkenfeld. The premiere is planned for 2016, with German distributor Film Kino Text and world sales managed by Pluto Film.
