Telia Hints at Plans for Content Production in Estonia

By

TALLINN: The local head of the international telecoms giant Telia has hinted that the company may start to produce its own content in the vein of Netflix and Amazon. Telia is also the largest mobile operator in Estonia. The move would be a first for an Estonian telecom company.

Karl Anton, Telia’s local head of TV and multimedia, said during a press meeting in Tallinn that Telia already carries popular Estonian films on its VoD service and moving into proprietary content production would be the next logical step for the company. Anton noted that Telia is working on the project but did not give any details.

The company registered a 19m EUR net profit in Q1 of 2016, giving it sufficient firepower to offer its current 175,000 TV-service clients its own content.
