The End of the Chain is produced by Alexandra Film and has a budget of 215,000 EUR. The main financier of the film is the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. The coproducers are Luxfilm, Filmivabrik, Angel Films Estonia, Cineunit and 1Agentuur. The film will be distributed in Estonia by one of the leading distributors Vaata Filmi with the domestic theatrical release scheduled for October 2017.
“We are especially happy to have our world premiere at Karlovy Vary,” commented Marianne Ostrat. “Last year we presented the project at the Works in Progress in Karlovy Vary and received a very warm welcome. We had absolute creative freedom while making the film, but it is very important for us that it would speak with the audience - hence we're excited to premiere it at a festival that is famous for its warm and enthusiastic audience,” added the producer.
The End of the Chain tells a story of people in the middle of a crisis - both in their souls and in the world surrounding them. It is also a film about the wish to find an anchor in one’s life and the need to feel approved. Deep topics are spiced up with comical elements.
Priit Pääsuke works as a director, editor and producer in his own production company Luxfilm. In 2008 his short fiction Black Peter premiered at the Tampere Film Festival, participated in 22 film festivals and won 11 prizes. In 2015 he premiered a feature documentary Impromptu, that had its international premiere at the European Film Festival Palic 2016. Marianne Ostrat is the founder and partner of Alexandra Film and Fork Film Animation Studio. Her first minority coproduction, the Swedish/Estonian animated short Amalimbo, premiered at the Venice IFF Orizzonti Short Film Competition 2016 and was a candidate for the Best Short Film Award at the European Film Awards.
