Film New Europe has teamed up with the upcoming Cannes Marche Du Film and the Producers Workshop to promote Central and Eastern European producers during Cannes.

Among the participants is Anna Khazaradze, born in 1991, an emerging producer from Georgia. After studying at American Academy, she continued her education in Paris at the faculty of Film Studies at AUP (American University in Paris). In 2011 she moved to London to study Film and Television at LCC (London College of Communication).

In 2013 she worked for her first full-length feature film In Mid Wickedness www.inmidwickedness.com (Georgia/UK) by Sundance award-winning director William Oldroyd. The film is based on the play The Forty by Howard Barker. The 75 minute drama produced by A.K.A. Films and Bird in Hand Productions premiered at the Tbilisi International Film Festival.

“The British producing company was the only sponsor at the beginning. Respectively, we applied for the Georgian National Film Center but we could not receive the funding. As a result, we did our best to attract local private companies to provide additional financial support,” Khazaradze said.

The film tells the story of two young men: a husband and a writer, who are rivals for the love of a young woman, but the war takes them both away. Finally, the sense of loss and loneliness leads her to a cliff’s edge.

In the framework of the Producer’s Workshop in Cannes, Khazaradze aims to present a short-film project.

At the moment, as a coproducer at The Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Lodz she is working on the diploma debut film This Place by Sandro Wysocki. The short film tells the story of a young mechanic who wants to give up his job and move to the capital. After a conflict with one of his costumers he decides to take a journey which holds unexpected transformations.

Shootings is scheduled for summer 2014 followed by a post-production period at the end of September.

As it is her first time participating in an international workshop, in Cannes she hopes to establish connections between A.K.A. Films, where she is the owner and founder, and the professionals in the European film industry.
