The director of the Georgian National Film Centre – Zurab Maghalashvili, the representative of Georgia at the EURIMAGES Council of Europe Cinema Support Fund - Tamara Tatishvili, the Head of Film Export & Distribution Department of the Georgian National Film Centre - David Vashadze, the project manager from the same department - Nino Shervashidze and the Creative Europe Media Program Manager – Levan Lomjaria are in charge of industrial aspects of the Pavilion.
Georgia will participate in a number of programs at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
A young director - Rati Tsiteladze will work on the development of the project for his new feature film “The Empty House” within a programme under the aegis of the Cannes Film Festival – Cinefondation. Rati Tsiteladze is among the six young directors chosen out of dozens of candidates. The producer of the film “The Empty House” – Nino Varsimashvili will attend the Cannes Film Festival and present the project of the documentary “May 17th” at the Doc Corner.
Georgian film producer Lasha Khalvashi will present Georgia at a special networking platform “PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE”. The platform was designed by the European Film Promotion (EFP). The programme is carried out during the Cannes Film Festival, providing the participants with the opportunity to meet film directors, sales agents, financiers and international media representatives.
Another Georgian producer - Tekla Machavariani will appear at the platform Producers’ Network. The platform gathers producers from all over the world to discuss co-productions and attend different events, screenings and presentations organized within the Cannes Film Market.
A young Georgian director - Giorgi varsimashvili’s project “Gaumarjos” is a nominee for Krzysztof Kieślowski Award for Best Central and Eastern European script. The event within the Cannes Film Festival is supported by the Polish Institute and the programme Script East. Introduction of the project to the representatives of film industry is planned within the same programme.
Cooperation between Georgia and Luxemburg
Eight Georgian producers will attend a meeting organized within the Cannes Film Festival by the Georgian National Film Centre and the Luxembourg Film Fund. (The producers who will attend the meeting have already been financed by the Georgian National Film Centre.)
The aim of the meeting is to bring Georgian and Luxembourg-based filmmakers together to negotiate feature film co-production agreements.
GNFC will welcome members of European Film Association to meet informally during the annual Georgian Cocktail on 21 May.
The Film New Europe Association is made up of the heads of leading European film funds and other important film institutions who meet twice a year to discuss future plans and prospects of cooperation between the Association member countries.
Meetings with selectors of San Sebastian, Sundance, Locarno and Karlovy Vary film festivals will also be held. The Georgian delegation will meet with representatives of Austrian and Norwegian film institutions and the Lithuanian film center during the Cannes Film Festival.
"Cinema at School"
This year the Georgian National Film Centre project - "Cinema at School" – is focused on international partnership. The Lithuanian and Latvian National Film Centers and the UK organization “FILM LITERACY EUROPE LIMITED" are involved in the process of the project implementation. The third meeting of the partners will be held within the frames of the Cannes Film Festival, where the results will be summarized and the future action plan will be agreed.
On May 21st Georgian delegation will host the guests of the Cannes Film Festival at the pavilion.
The Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 17th to 28th this year.
