FNE at Cannes 2018: Georgian Cinema in Cannes

    France, Georgia and Belgium co-production "Girls of the Sun" will fight for Palme d'Or in the main competition of Cannes Film Festival. The film is directed by Eva Husson, and producers - Didar Domehri, Etienne Comar, Vladimir Kacharava, Jospeh Rouschop, Dan Wechsler and Jamal Zeinal Zade. Georgian actors who participate in the film will go to the Cannes International Film Festival. "Girls of the Sun" was created with the support of the program "Film in Georgia"

    The influential American edition Variety named ten of the most successful producers, whose films are also featured at the leading European Film Festival of Europe and America this year. In this list  producers are awarded to Oscar and Golden Globe, Sundance, Berlinale and other important film festivals. Together with these producers, Lasha Khalvashi is included in the list for films "Scary Mother" and "Horizont".Variety's elected producers will be awarded at the Nespresso beach on May 14 in frames of Girls of the Sun by Eva HussonCannes Film Festival.

    Cinefondation at Cannes Film Festival Residence Program, young director Mariam Khachvani will work on the development of his new feature film "Nene". It should be noted that "Nene" received a cash prize of MPA Apsa Academy Film Fund at the Asian Oscar Awards ceremony.

    In the Cannes Film Festival section, Shoot the Book!, for the first time the Georgian novel was selected, which is related to the participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair in Georgia in 2018. Aka Morchiladze's "obOle" will be presented before the international film industry representatives on May 15. The work of the Georgian author was among the 10 best novels in Cannes.

    Young director Rati Tsiteladze's project "Empty House" (Producer - Nino Varsimashvili) is nominated for the  Krzysztof Kieślowski Prize, which will be awarded for the best central and eastern European scenario. The event is supported by the Polish Institute and Program Script East within the Cannes Film Festival.

    A number of important meetings are held on the Georgian stand along with the representatives of Sandes, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Toronto Film Festivals.     Active meetings will be held for future cooperation with Belgian, Croatian and Lithuanian producers. For the first time, such a form of event was held in frames of Cannes Film Festival, with the initiative to connect Georgian and foreign producers.

    On May 14, the Georgian party will host the 110th anniversary of Georgian cinema.
