Tivoli's Vespa in preproduction

By Gyorgy Karpati
The Hungarian-Serbian feature film Vespa from director Diana Groo is in preproduction and the shooting will start at the end of June.

The film is produced by Hungarian Tivoli Film Productions (www.tivolifilms.com), led by managing director Denes Szekeres, and the Serbian Vision Team (www.visionteam-belgrade.com).

The estimated budget of the movie will be €330,000 including some €170,000 from the Motion Picture Foundation of Hungary (www.mmka.hu) granted in April 2008.

The 25-day film shoot will begin at the end of June, Szekeres told FNE, with the entire film shot in Hungary. The cinematographer is Sandor Kardos who was nominated for European Film Award for Eldorado in 1989.

Groo made her feature film directing debut in 2004 with the Polish-Hungarian co-production Miracle in Cracow, produced by Poland's Krzysztof Zanussi.

The story is a fairy-tale road movie and is about a 12 year old Gypsy boy living in the countryside who wins a motor-scooter with a chocolate bar and travels alone to the capitol to claim his prize.

The Hungarian release of the movie is planned for Hungarian Film Week in 2010.
