Cult-director Alejandro Jodorowsky (known for his 1970 midnight movie El Topo) is in pre-production to direct the American-French-Hungarian co-production King Shot, co-producer Laszlo Kantor told FNE.
The estimated budget of the movie is $7.4, Kantor said. The film will be produced by France's Clavis Films (www.clavisfilms.com) and producer Shandor Simon. The co-producer is U.S. company Absurda Film Production Company under cult director David Lynch and Uj Budapest Filmstudio (www.ujbudapestfilmstudio.hu) under Kantor. Discussions are underway with Italian co-production partner. The director
Jodorowsky (80), a noted cult director with only six films to his credit, calls the movie a metaphysical spaghetti western. He made his last film, The Rainbow Thief, in 1990.
The cinematographer is Hungarian-born Academy Award Winner Vilmos Zsigmond. The cast includes Nick Nolte and musician Marilyn Manson.
The shooting will probably start in October in Spain. The Hungarian shooting location is not yet set. The release is generally planned for 2010-2011.
