Production: Heat in preproduction

By Gyorgy Karpati

Mihaly Schwechtje's feature film debut Heat, an international co-production with an estimated budget of €1.4 million, is in preproduction, producer Laszlo Kantor told FNE.

The movie is produced by Uj Budapest Filmstudio (www.ujbudapestfilmstudio.hu), and negotiations are underway with European production partners, Kantor said.

The script won the Hungarian round of Hartley-Merrill International Screenwriting Prize in 2005. Schwechtje and his project will take part at Cinelink in the Sarajevo International Film Festival in August and at the Binger Lab's five-month Script Development Programme (www.binger.nl) in autumn as the first Hungarian participant.

Heat is a social drama with black humor, the director said. The story is about a goat-herd who steals from his boss and he dies. Later an accident turns into a murder and under the surface there are secrets and lies.

The shooting will probably start in fall, 2010, according to the producer.
