DISCOP business heats up prior to June 18 opening

By FNE Staff

DISCOP EAST 08, taking place June 18-20 in Budapest, is moving into gear even before buyers arrive. Now in its 18th year of operation, the TV market expects to attract up to 2,000 participants.

According to C21 Media, L.A. based Rive Gauche Television already has racked licensing sales of three seasons of its reality show Scare Tactics to the TV3 channels in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The program plus a special have also been sold in Turkey.

Pointing out just how important a stop DISCOP EAST 08 (www.discop.com) has become on the annual TV markets schedule, General Manager Patrick Jucaud told FNE, "A fast-growing number of international television content sales organisations are now looking at Central and Eastern Europe as their number one foreign licensing and syndication market. The fact that we are expecting close to 250 new thematic TV channels operating in that region at this year's DISCOP EAST, which did not exist a year ago, proves how dynamic this part of the world has become, fuelled by the forthcoming digital switchover which will positively impact television content business in the region."

This year's event is on target to draw over 500 sellers and 1,300 buyers representing 900 companies in 33 countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Organizers estimate that most attendees average 40-50 meeting per day.
