Latvia Approves Co-Financing Funds

By

RIGA:  The Latvian government has approved a grant of 500,000 euros for a co-financing programme for foreign producers making films in Latvia.

The funds were approved on 15 June 2013.

The programme allocates co-financing through a tender which will be opened within two weeks. Up to 25% of eligible film related expenditure can be obtained by the tender winner as cash rebate when filming is completed.

Ilze Gailīte Holmberg, director of the National Film Centre of Latvia, said in a statement, "Establishing the co-financing programme is a strong stimulus for foreign producers to come to Latvia, see our wonderful nature and architecture, work together with our film makers in creative and professional environment and to return for future projects. Producers from Japan, Korea, India, Russia and other countries already are making here a couple of their films. Among Baltic states Latvia will be the first having co-financing programme on the national level and I am sure it will attract important foreign film projects."
