American Series Filming in Lithuania

By

VILNIUS: The U.S. television network ABC is currently shooting an eight-part TV mini-series The Assets in Vilnius.

The series is based on the book Circle of Treason: A CIA Account of Traitor Aldrich Ames and the Men He Betrayed set during the Cold War. The book was written by veteran CIA officers Sandra Grimes and Jeanne Vertefeuille who hunted down CIA officer Aldrich Ames, a mole who fed information to the Soviet Union that contributed to the deaths of at least ten Soviet intelligence officers who had spied for the United States.

The story is set in 1985, when the CIA and KGB were locked in a high-stakes, global chess match. Without warning, the United States began losing a number of highly valuable assets that tipped the scales in favor of the USSR. CIA officer Sandy Grimes leads the investigation into the lost assets and discovered that the source of the breach was fellow CIA officer Aldrich Ames.

The Assets is produced by ABC News’ Lincoln Square Productions and Lithuanian production company Baltic Film Services.

Executive producers are Morgan Hertzan, Rudy Bednar and Andrew Chapman who will run the series. Episodes of The Assets are directed by Hungarian-born film and TV director Peter Medak and Norwegian director Trygve Diesen.

“The Americans chose Vilnius because of the highly qualified professionals and due to the fact that here it‘s possible to find America and Russia, and several other countries. The shooting is especially intense; two teams are shooting simultaneously,” Baltic Film Services producer Lineta Mišeikytė said.

Filming started at the end of October in Vilnius and will conclude at the end of December, 2013. The first episode will air on 2 January, 2014.
