BELGRADE: Serbian director Dragan Marinković is in postproduction with his fifth feature film, Leeches / Pijavice, set for release in 2018. The film is a Serbian/Croatian/Macedonian coproduction and is based on a book under the same title by David Albahari, who also penned the screenplay together with Marinković.
The story follows writer Petar Mirić, who expresses views in opposition to the principles of the current political regime at the time of a huge socio-political crisis in Serbia. A close encounter with the state security apparatus plunges him into a life marked by paranoia and a search for the truth.
The main roles are played by Nikola Đuričko, Lazar Ristovski, Marijana Janković and Iva Mihalić. Boris Gortinski, who lives and works in Los Angeles, is the DoP.
Dragan Marinković through Marebo and Lazar Ristovski through Zillion Film are producing. This is the forth collaboration between Marinković and Ristovski. The other coproducers are Interfilm (Croatia) and Pank Film (Macedonia).
The project was supported with 83,000 EUR by Film Center Serbia and later backed by the Macedonian Film Agency in 2015 with 114,000 EUR and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre with 85,000 EUR.The Ministry of Culture and the Provincial Secretariat for Culture are also supporting.
The film was shot on location in Belgrade, Canada and Croatia. Shooting started end of April 2017 and finished end of June 2017, after five years of project work and fundraising.
