A Canadian/Maltese TV pilot about the earliest days of the Christian church is due to film in Malta at the end of November 2013.
The Times of Malta reports that the film is a coproduction from Cittadella Films using a cast of international (Including John Rhys Davis) and Maltese actors. Mario Philip Azzopardi, CEO of Cittadella Films, is the writer/director. If the series is picked up, there are plans to produce an additional 12 episodes in Malta beginning in May 2014.
Malta played an important historical role in the early days of Christianity, with St. Paul shipwrecked on a small island off the coast of Malta’s mainland in about 60 A.D. The TV series will apparently take its name from the saint’s birth name, Saul.
