Malta Film Commission in Cannes

Flying the Maltese flag in Cannes

Last month the Maltese Government has announced a substantial increase in the cash rebates to filmmakers who will now have the opportunity to benefit from a 25% cash rebate with an additional 2% if they feature Maltese cultural elements. The new incentive scheme is subject to State Aid approval. During a national press conference Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech remarked that the cash rebate system given to qualifying productions will make Malta even more cost effective and will provide producers with more value for their money. Malta has a lot to offer and we need to exploit our potential. He stated that Malta’s great weather, long hours of day light and the island’s distinctive locations with a film history dating back to 1925, also prove to be strong assets to make Malta an attractive choice to both big budget studio productions as well as independent productions from virtually all over the world. Described as Mediterranean’s mini Hollywood by the London Times, Malta, has a proven track record showing that the island has all it takes to serve as a European centre for film making.

Film Commissioner Mr Engelbert Grech will be available for meetings in Cannes to present Malta’s attractiveness in film industry.
