2017-04-24

VALLETTA: The Malta Film Commission will give 162,500 EUR in grants for the special production call of the Malta Film Fund, which closed in October 2016.

Latitude 36 by Charlie CauchiThrough a special call announced last August, the Malta Film Commission has allocated 162,500 EUR to several short film projects and a television pilot, beyond the 230,914 EUR already disbursed through the main call in 2016. The aim of the special call was to incentivise production during the current year, in which Malta holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and also for 2018, when Valletta will be anointed European Capital of Culture.

Amongst the projects are Charlie Cauchi’s short documentary on the Maltese diaspora, Latitude 36, which is part of a larger Valletta 2018 Foundation project by the same name, and Never After, the pilot which will be helmed byLimestone Cowboy’s Abigail Mallia.

The film commission has also opened the annual call, which closes on 30 June 2017. The kitty has been upped to 300,000 EUR and will cover writing and development grants, as well as financing for short and long-form filmmaking.
