VALLETTA: The Bollywood film Bharat starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, which wrapped shooting on 2 March 2019, used Malta as location last year. The film is the directorial debut of Ali Abbas Zafar.
The shooting in Malta lasted two weeks and took place in several locations including Mdina, Valletta, Cospicua and Boilers Wharf in Senglea.
“This is the second major Indian production in Malta and an investment of almost 5 m EUR. The nice thing about this production is that the theme of the film revolves around Malta. There are great actors and around 200 Maltese people working on this film, along with 1,200 extras,” Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said quoted by TV Malta in the summer of 2018.
Malta is a welcoming country for international productions. “The interest is very high from different countries, Australia, Hollywood, Europe and China. Malta has a lot to offer, we have a good skill base and we are able to have three films shooting here at the same time,” Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech also said.
