TVP Plans to Produce More Original Content

By Katarzyna Grynienko

WARSAW: Polish public broadcaster TVP will open a competition for original Polish series ideas, with a new daytime drama and a crime series will be chosen in December 2011. The premieres of the winning daytime drama on TVP1 and the winning crime series on TVP2 is planned for the fall of 2012.

The application deadline for original scripts is 19 November 2011. The projects will be graded on form and content and then presented to the competition committees by 12 December 2011.

"A series is a television genre most liked by the viewers. In times when foreign formats are ruling television, the public broadcaster wants to engage in an original, Polish project. The competition is for everyone because we want to open ourselves to a whole new environment and new, undiscovered authors," Joanna Stempień-Rogalińska, TVP spokesperson, told FNE.

The competition is the continuation of TVP's new strategy announced by the recently chosen President Juliusz Braun, who promised an increase in originally produced content. The open search of new ideas proved to be a good method in the past, when TVP (www.tvp.pl) held a similar competition and selected the script for Clan and The Złotopolski's, one of the most popular Polish daytime dramas of all time.
