FNE at Jihlava Film Festival: Polish-Italian Doc Pays Tribute to Venice

By Anna Franklin

JIHLAVA:Polish documentary director Agnieszka Magdalena Podkowka fell in love when she came to Venice the city where she met her Italian husband Giuseppe Trevisin. Serenissima is her tribute to her love affair with Venice which is screening in the East Silver Film (www.eastsilver.net) Market. Serenissima is a 23 minute doc without dialogue shot in Venice and produced by her husband with all postproduction done in Poland.

The film was Podkowska's diploma work for her master's degree at the Lodz Film School. The film is a visual treat that was selected by the Venice Film Commission to screen at the 8th edition of the Venice Film Meetings earlier this year.

Podkowska said: "The Commission thought Serenissima showed off the beauty of the city and wanted it to be seen by a wider audience as it promoted Venice as a place not only to for tourists to visit but also to shoot films."

The film also screened at the Central and Eastern European Cinema International Film Festival of the Lubuskie Film Summer- Lagow in Poland.

Podkowska lives and works in both Italy and Poland and has worked in set design, painting, video installation and television production. She has also received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Italian government for her work at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.

The film with it's attractive scenes from Venice was already creating a buzz at the Venice Film Festival's Digital Expo for industry professionals earlier this year.
