FNE at Gdynia Film Festival: Manhunt

By FNE Staff

{mosimage}Director/screenwriter Marcin Krzyształowicz enters the Main Competition in Gdynia (www.fpff.pl) with a WWII drama about the need for vengeance and compassion, Manhunt.

Manhunt is a war thriller, envisioned as a Polish variation on Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. The complicated plot was designed to show the reality of occupation from a partisan soldier's perspective. Corporal Wydra must face not only Nazi murders but also Polish traitors and his own, dark past. The leading role is played by Marcin Dorociński, awarded for the Best Male Performance during the 2011 Gdynia PFF. He is joined by Maciej Stuhr cast in an unexpectedlt dark character role and Sonia Bohosiewicz, who plays his brilliant and outspoken wife.

{mosimage}"It is hard to find contemporary Polish titles which treat the characters and the story with such an uncommon approach. This is an art perfectly executed by the Americans. They can shoot a wonderful film that moves the audience through the years, about every episode in their history. Manhunt represents this sort of American approach to history," Bohosiewicz told FNE.

Krzyształowicz is a young Polish filmmaker and screenwriter working in cinema and television, who made his debut in 2001 with Eucalyptus. The director of photography is Arkadiusz Tomiak, highly praised for his work on award winning Polish features such as Zero (www.opusfilm.com), Daas (www.agromedia.bg) and Symmetry (www.spi.pl).

Manhunt was shot on location in Rytro, Słomniki and Luborzyca between 15 November 2011 and 19 January 2012. Alvernia Studios handled film services. The film was produced by Skorpion Arte (www.skorpionarte.pl) in co-production with the Krakow Festival Office ( www.film-commission.pl), Telekomunikacja Polska S.A (www.tp.pl), Studio Produkcyjne ORKA (www.orkafilm.pl) and NON STOP Film Service (www.nsfs.pl). The project was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl) and the Krakow Regional Film Fund from the funds of the Malopolska Region and the City of Krakow.

The film will premiere in Polish cinemas by the end of 2012, distributed by Kino Świat (www.kinoswiat.pl).
