From Thursday Till Sunday wins T-Mobile New Horizons Grand Prix

    WROCŁAW: Director Dominga Sotomayor Castillo won the Grand Prix and 20000 EUR for his new drama From Thursday till Sunday (De jueves a domingo, Chile, www.cinestacion.cl).

    The FIPRESCI  film critics award went to Neighbouring Sounds (O som ao redor, CinemaScopio) by Kleber Mendonça Filho.

    In the Films On Art International Competition the Jury gave the 10,000 EUR prize to Punk Syndrome (www.kovasikajuttu.fi) by Jukki Kärkkäinena and Jani-Petteri Passi. The festival organizers New Horizon Association (www.nowehoryzonty.pl) guaranteed Polish theatrical releases for all the full-length feature film winners.

    In the European Short Films Competition, the best animation winner was Bobby Yeah (www.robertmorganfilms.com) by Robert Morgan. The prize for best documentary in this competition went to Without Evidence (Manque de preuves,www.lefresnoy.net) by Hayoun Kwona. The prize for best experimental film went to The Ghost of Happiness (Des Gespents des Glück, www.swissfilms.ch) by Max Philipp Schmid.

    In the Polish Short Film Competition, the animation category winner was Oranges (www.filmschool.lodz.pl) by Marta Szymańska; the best documentary category winner was The Whistle (www.studiomunka.pl) by Grzegorz Zariczny; and the best fiction film category winner was Echo by Marcin Filipowicz. The London Film Academy Award went to Sashka, Sashka (www.studiomunka.pl) by Michał Szcześniak.

    The awards were presented at the closing ceremony of the 12th T-Mobile New Horizons IFF on 29 July 2012,. In eleven days the festival pesented the Polish premieres of 160 films among the 469 films from 52 countries. Turnout at this year's festival amounted in 108,000 spectators.
