Polish Animation in the Spotlight at DOK Leipzig Władysław Starewicz

LEIPZIG: DOK Leipzig, which runs through 4 November 2012, marks the centennial of Poland’s first puppet animation film with a retrospective of its creator, Władysław Starewicz, and a special programme on Polish puppet animation.

“Bugs Are Only Human Too – a Władysław Starewicz Retrospective” will screen the early Russian and French silent films (with piano accompaniment) by Starewicz, the father of Polish puppet animation.

The additional special programme, “Bring on the Puppets! – Polish Puppet Animation After 1945,” looks at the works of the animators that followed him. Its highlights include 14 animated short films by Polish-born animator Mariola Brillowska, who will also hold a Master Class at the Polish Institute.
