PRODUCTION: One Man Show Showcases Polish Actor

By Barbara Łukaszewicz

WARSAW: One Man Show, the story of struggling 33-year-old actor Marcin Sitek, is midway through a 16 month shoot.

As Sitek admits, his film and theatre career isn't developing in the most electrifying way; he's still waiting for a significant role. He fulfills himself as a cabaret actor and a stand-up comedian. Despite his frustration and problems, he keeps on fighting, and every year, for the last seven years, he spends from five to eight weeks working on a farm in Norway to earn enough money to support himself in Poland. With One Man Show he finally get a leading role: “playing” himself in a documentary about him.

The film is directed by Jakub Piątek whose documentary debut Mother was shown at more than fifty international festivals and won several awards (including Grand Prix in Tehran and Best European Short Film Award in Portugal). The producers are Maciej Kubicki and Anna Kępińska whose latest documentary Entangled (directed by Lidia Duda) won the Grand Prix for Best Polish Documentary at the 2012 Kraków Film Festival 2012.

One Man Show is filming through November 2013 in Poland and Norway.

The budget is 77,328 EUR. The Polish Film Institute awarded it a grant of 48,331 EUR. The producers plan to find a Norwegian coproducer.

The film's release date is May 2014.
