FESTIVALS: Szumowska to Close New Horizons IFF

    WROCLAW: The T-Mobile New Horizons IFF (18-28 July 2013) will screen 12 Polish premieres in the International Competition and 12 creative documentaries in the Film in Art International Competition. 

     

    Only two films from CEE made it into the competitions: Floating Skyscrapers/Płynące wieżowce (Alter Ego Pictures) by Polish director Tomasz Wasilewski in the International Competition and Marionetista / Man who Made Angels Fly, dir. Wiktoria Szymanska.

    The Palme d'Or winner La vie d'Adèle - Chapitre 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Colour) by Abdellatif Kechiche will open the festival. The closing film will be the Polish premiere of Malgoska Szumowska's Berlinale competition film and Teddy Award winner In the Name of... (MD4). 

    Films awarded the Grand Prix, Audience Award and FIPRESCI Award in the International Competition and the winner of the Films in Art International Competition are guaranteed all-rights distribution by the New Horizons Association.

    The festival will also host a Polish Shorts Competition and a European Shorts Competition. 

    The festival’s highlights include retrospectives of Walerian Borowczyk and Hans-Jürgen Syberberg, Cinema Du Look - French Neobaroque, Cyberpunk cinema, Swiss Musical Documentaries and Russia's Parallel Cinema, which will focus on the new Russian independent films.  

    The 352 films selected for the festival include 143 Polish premieres.
