WARSAW: Gods, a drama about the Polish heart transplant pioneer, is in production in Warsaw.

The biopic, which focuses on the early career of cardio surgeon Zbigniew Religa, has received a healthy dose of financing from the Polish Film Institute: 2m PLN or almost 500,000 EUR toward an undisclosed budget.

Religa, who was the first cardio surgeon to successfully transplant a heart in Poland, battled moral, cultural and religious taboos as he revolutionized Polish medicine in the 1980’s.

Filming began on 11 October 2013 and will last until the beginning of November on locations in Warsaw, the Mazuria region and Silesia. The film is produced by Piotr Woźniak-Starak and Krzysztof
    Rak of Watchout Productions.

The film is directed by Łukasz Palkowski with a script written by Krzysztof Rak who was a finalist at the 2013 Script Pro competition. The film has a cast of Polish stars with Tomasz Kot in the lead role.

The premiere is planned for autumn of 2014.
