FNE at Connecting Cottbus 2013: The Erlprince

By

COTTBUS: Poland’s Munk Studio is in preproductions with The Erlprince, a feature debut from writer/director Kuba Czekaj.

The central character is a 13-year-old boy who is a genius so out of touch with reality that he has to have the letters “R” and “L” printed on his hands to distinguish them. The story covers his initiation into adulthood as he begins to rebel from the demands of his mother’s ambitions for him, developing a theory of a parallel world entered into by death.

The 1m EUR film has 511,000 EUR in place, with 2m PLN coming from the Polish Film Institute and 200,000 coming for the Wroclaw regional fund Odra Film. Producer Michalina Fabijanska tolf FNE that the producers are in discussions with a German coproducer and are also awaiting funding from public broadcaster TVP. The five year old production company Munk Studio specializes in first films, and produced the director’s 2009 first short film Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Room. The Erlprince will be its fourth feature film.
