PRODUCTION: Królikiewicz Returns with Neighbors

LODZ: After a long break, renowned Polish director Grzegorz Królikiewicz makes a comeback with Neighbors, a warm, absurd comedy about extraordinary people.

Shooting on Neighbors (Sąsiady) began in November on location in Lodz and will last through 18 December 2013.

The script is a multi-plot story about the inhabitants of an tenement building. "It's a story about people that we usually don't notice in our everyday life (...) about people without perspectives, chances, who keep on living their miserable existence despite it all. They live in modern ghettos, forgotten by the authorities that are supposed to look after them," Królikiewicz said.

The film is produced by KADR Film Studio, which produced Suicide Room by Jan Komasa and 2012 box office hit You Are God from Leszek Dawid. Neighbors is produced with a budget of 3.1 million PLN, with 1.4 million PLN from the Polish Film Institute and financial support from the Lodz Film Fund.

Królikiewicz is a documentary and feature filmmaker most recognized for his work in Na wylot and Przypadek Pekosińskiego. His new comedy includes a cast of popular Polish actors including Anna Mucha, Katarzyna Herman, Jaek Poniedziałek, Piotr Głowacki, musician Marek Dyjak and professional heavy-weight lifter Mariusz Pudzianowski. The DoP is Krzysztof Ptak.

The official premiere is planned for 2014 with Kino Świat set as the distributor.
