New Europe Film sold Polish and Latvian productions to Asia

    WARSAW: Latvia's Oscar candidate Mother I Love You will be distributed in India while Poland's celebrated Papusza was sold to Japan.

    The only international sales agent operating in Poland, the New Europe Film Sales informed FNE that Latvia’s candidate for the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, Mother, I Love You by Janis Nords was picked up for all rights distribution by the Children's Film Society India and also found distributor in South Korea. The drama follows 12-year-old Raimonds, who runs away from his strict mother and finds himself suddenly involved in the world of petty crime. The cast includes Kristofers Konovalovs, Vita Vārpiņa, Matīss Livčāns and Indra Briķ. The title won Berlinale Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury for the Best Feature Film. The film is produced by Film Studio TANKA (Latvia) in co-operation with ARTBOX (Lithuania) with the support of the National Film Centre of Latvia and the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia and had its international premiere in February 2013.

    The rights to distribution in Japan for Polish drama Papusza were bought by a company Moviola. The flm, directed by Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze was shot in 2012, produced by Lambros Ziotas of Argomedia sp. z o.o. in coproduction with Telewizja Polska S.A., Canal+ Polska, Studio Filmowe KADR. It premiered internationally in June 2013 at the Karlovy Vary fest where it received a Special Mention. The title also won a Bronze Camera at the Manaki Brothers Festival in Macedonia, Best Directors, Best Actor and Youth Jury Prize at Valladolid FF as well as Best Actor, Best Music and Best Make-up Awards at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
