    WARSAW: The Mighty Angel a drama from Wojciech Smarzowski had the fourth best opening of a Polish film in the last 20 years with 253 937 admissions on its first weekend.

    The adaptation of Jerzy Pilch's best-selling novel premiered in Polish cinemas on 17 January 2013 surpassing the biggest foreign films. It is also the best opening for a movie directed by Smarzowski, whose crime drama Traffic Department opened with 176,732 admissions and was the Polish box office hit of 2013 with 1,015,418 tickets sold.

    The film follows the record opening of 2012 by You Are God from Leszek Dawid, with an opening weekend record of 373,796 admissions. The best opening Polish film is still Andrzej Wajda's Pan Tadeusz with 424,895 admissions during the opening weekend, followed by a music comedy Love and Dance (TVN) directed by Bruce Parramore with 393,803 admissions.

    The film was produced by Profil Film Jacek Rzehak with a budget of 1.7 million EUR. The production received 2.5 m PLN from the Polish Film Institute and 600,000 PLN from the Krakow Regional Film Fund. The film was coproduced by Fundacja EDM Plus, HBO Polska, Kraków Film Commission, Telewizja Polska, Mojotribe and Kino Świat.
