Rain of Children wins at Poland's Era New Horizons

    Rain of the Children, an intimate docufiction directed by Vincent Ward, the famous filmmaker from New Zealand, has won the Grand Prix at the eight International ERA NEW HORIZONS Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland.

    Other top-scoring competition entries included Delta by Kornel Mundruczó, Isaac Julien's Derek, My Winnipeg by Guy Maddin and Peter Geyer's Jesus Christus Erlöser / Jesus Christ Saviour.

    Tomasz Wolski's The Goldfish was chosen by the international jury as a Winner of the festival's NEW POLISH FILMS COMPETITION.

    The festival, which ran from July 17 - 27, showcased 678 screenings, including 247 feature films and 354 short films from over 50 countries, 120 of which had their Polish premiere. It included retrospectives of films by Theo Angelopoulos, Terence Davies, Andrzej Zulawski, and a focus on cinema from New Zealand and Brasil.

    The festival welcomed 180 filmmakers and professionals from all around the world, such as Roger Donaldson, Vincent Ward, Theo Angelopoulos, Terence Davies, Peter Geyer, and over 350 guests from Poland, including Jerzy Skolimowski, Krzysztof Zanussi, Robert Glinski.

    The eight edition of Era New Horizons sold 127 000 tickets. The ninth edition will be held from July, 23 - August 2, 2009.
