National Geographic Channel Europe to produce first series in Poland

    WARSAW: National Geographic Channel Europe will produce its first series in Poland, the Polish edition of Taboo, a documentary series exploring unusual rituals and superstitions of different cultures.

    National Geographic Channel Europe will coproduce the show with TTV television, owned by TVN Group. The series is an NGC original format exploring the issues of what is considered taboo and forbidden in different parts of the world.

    "Taboo is one of the most watched shows in the National Geographic Channel program offer in the world. We are hoping that the local production of this format will combine the synergy and professionals coming from both our brands and companies which will allow us to present Polish taboo topics and Polish protagonists in a way that will be successful on the Polish market," said Magdalena Szwedkowicz, the supervising producer from National Geographic Channel.

    The 12-episode first season of the show will be the first documentary series that National Geographic Channel will fully produce in Poland. TTV was chosen to partner up with NGC on this project because of the station’s vast experience in producing this type of show. The documentary series will premiere on NGC in the fall of 2014 and be available also on TTV. TTV is a station devoted to documentaries and socio-political journalism, available for free through ground digital transmitters, holding 1.4 % of the Polish television market while National Geographic Channel is available to Polish viewers via cable TV providers and holds 0.52% of the market.
