LUBLIN: Jacek Lusiński has begun production on his drama starring Andrzej Chyra, inspired by the story of a blind teacher overcoming his disability.

Carte Blanche is based on the true story of a Lublin-based high school teacher, Maciej Białek, who hid his loss of eyesight for over four years out of fear of losing his job. "For me this is my everyday life, the reality I was experiencing then and now," Białek said during a press conference 22 February Lublin. "But it is not a film about me." After two or three weeks, the crew is expected to move to Gdynia to complete the shoot.

The project is produced by Aurum Film in co-production with Orange Polska with a planned budget of 4.5m PLN. Carte Blanche has already received financial support from the Polish Film Institute and Lublin Film Fund.

One of the most popular Polish actors, Chyra was cast in the lead role and will be accompanied by Arkadiusz Jakubik, Dorota Kolak, Urszula Grabowska, Wojciech Pszoniak, Maria Chwalibóg, Jerzy Rogalski, Ewa Bakalarska, Anna Nowak and Tomasz Ziętek. "This story has the potential to make the viewer root for our hero in every moment of his life," said the director. "I decided to give our hero a voice that we will hear off screen throughout the whole movie; it would be a futile endeavor if we hadn't done it like this."

The film will premiere in Polish cinemas this fall and Kino Świat is distributing.
