WARSAW: Public broadcaster TVP has announced the 10 feature films which will receive more than 15 m PLN in financing from the channel’s cinematography fund in 2014.

Nine of the films selected are still in production.

The largest amount was given to the war drama Historia Roja (Roj's Story) directed by Jerzy Zalewski and produced by TOR Film Studio, a project that has been in production for the two years and struggled with completion because of the lack of funds.

TVP will co-finance Jan Komasa's major project Warsaw 44 (Akson Studio) with 3 m PLN. Wałęsa, a completed drama from Andrzej Wajda (Akson Studio), and The Photographer (Yes To Film), a work in progress from Waldemar Krzystek, each received 1.2 m PLN.

TVP spokesman Jacek Rakowiecki expects that the broadcaster will be engage in further projects. "Sometimes we finance a certain film when in production and then come back with more funding at other stages of production. Therefore, it is possible that we will co-finance some other projects this year, at least in part," Rakowiecki told FNE.

TVP chooses high quality productions that fall under the broad category of the public broadaster's mission. "We also want to pay more attention to the film's commercial potential, so that we don't finance projects that are ambitious but have a very small chance to reach a broader audience. The board decided that starting in 2014 these decisions will be taken by a special Film Collegium of more than a dozen experts coming from TVP, experienced in production, financing and sales," Rakowiecki added.
