Mazovia Film Fund Approves 2014 Grants for Three Films

    WARSAW: The 4th edition of the Mazovia Film Fund awarded 700,000 PLN to films from Xawery Żuławski, Paweł Łoziński and Jan Komasa.

    The Mazovia Film Fund annual competition, which co-finances projects promoting the Mazovia region and its film industry, made its decision on 6 May 2014. The fund will finance two feature films and one documentary. A total of 44 projects competed for the funds: 18 feature films, 21 documentaries and 5 animated films.

    The biggest grant of 319,800 PLN was given to Warsaw 44 produced by Akson Studio, an epic costume drama directed by Jan Komasa that is currently in post-production with a première date set for 19 September 2014. Zły (The Man with White Eyes), an adaptation of a bestselling novel by Leopold Tyrmand directed by Xawery Zuławski and produced by Water Color Studio recieved 307,500 PLN. Divorce, a documentary directed and produced by Paweł Łodziński, received 72,700 PLN.

    The projects go through a negotiation process followed by the signing of a coprodcution agreement with the Mazovia Arts and Culture Center. If the winning filmmakers and producers fail to complete this step the financing will go to three films honoured with a special mention: The Body, a feature drama directed by Małgorzata Szumowska and produced by Nowhere; Zaćma (Cataract) a
    feature directed by Ryszard Bugajski and produced by Erbe Film; and Królewicz Olch (The Erlprince) a feature directed by Kuba Czekaj and produced by SFP's Munk Studio.
