WARSAW: The drama Gods by Łukasz Palkowski has become the most popular Polish film of the year, with 2.03m tickets sold to date.

Gods premiered in Polish cinemas on 10 October 2014, distributed by Next Film. During the opening weekend it sold 200,000 tickets, and the second weekend another 250,000 admissions. The winner of Golden Lions is the most watched Polish title of the year and it already surpassed the 2013 number one box office hit for Poland, Wojciech Smarzowski's Traffic Department (Film It) which sold 1,150,000 tickets.

The last time a Polish title sold over 2m tickets was in 2011, when Mitja Okorn's Letters To Santa (TVN) was the most watched Polish production with 2.3m admissions and was the most popular title, surpassing all foreign films.

Gods was produced by Piotr Woźniak-Starak and Krzysztof Rak of Watchout Productions in coproduction with Agora, Born To Film Productions, Digital 35, Fundacja Sztuki Filmowej Ingenium and Orange. The film received 2m PLN for production financing from the Polish Film Institute.
