The script of Playground / Plac Zabaw was co-written by Bartosz M. Kowlaski together with Stanisław Warwas and won the prestigious Script Pro Competition in 2014. The story follows a violent episode in the life of young children. Twelve-year-old Gabrysia wants to tell her classmate that she fell in love with him. She sets up a secret meeting and blackmails the boy to show up. But what was supposed to be an intimate talk spins out of control and leads to an unexpected ending.
"We may be immune to some horrors of this world, but there are those who still shock us and leave us with a sense of anxiety and protest. This is how this script was born, out of fear and lack of understanding for the source of this total lack of empathy, the source of evil", the director said.
The film was produced by Dariusz Pietrykowski through Film It in coproduction with Studio Produkcyjne Orka with a budget of 812,160 EUR / 3.5 m PLN, including 464,078 EUR / 2 m PLN received from the Polish Film Institute.
The film had its world premiere in the Main Competition at the 64th San Sebastian IFF on 19 September 2016 and will be distributed in Poland by Next Film in November 2016.
