WARSAW: As its new original series Belle Epoque hit a record of 2.9 m viewers during the premiere of the first episode, TVN decided to invest in the format and to sell it abroad.

Belle Epoque is a 10-episode crime costume drama series starring Magdalena Cielecka and Paweł Małaszyński, produced by Akson Studio for TVN.

The show went into development in 2014 and premiered in Poland on 15 February 2017. The 2.9 m viewers for the first episode is a record for a locally made, scripted TV show in Poland. The final budget of the show has not been announced yet, but the production scale puts it in the top of most expensive Polish original series.

"We already have a model of distribution for this series and for the first time we'd like to experiment and not sell a script or the idea, but the full show", said Edward Miszczak, TVN Programme Director. "We are very excited about how the first season turned out and we have a major budget set aside for a continuation, but as always it is the viewer holding the remote, who will decide. Television needs investing and moving pictures become more expensive with each year. We are a big channel and we need to remain big with our choices", Miszczak also said.
