GDYNIA: Kasia Adamik’s psychological thriller Amok, inspired by a Polish writer and convicted murderer, will vie in the main competition of the 42nd Gdynia Film Festival. The festival will take place from 18 to 23 September 2017.

The film is based on the novel Amok written by Krystian Bala, who was convicted for killing his wife's lover. Bala described a similar crime in his novel and this ultimately drew the police on his trace. "This is not a film about how to catch a killer, but on how obsession and madness are born, about the jealousy that can lead to a crime. We've decided to show the identity of the killer from the very beginning, so it became a story of two men who are playing a sophisticated game, that eventually gets out of control", Kasia Adamik told FNE.

The film was written by Richard Karpala, a young American screenwriter with Polish roots, and stars Mateusz Kościukiewicz and Łukasz Simlat, accompanied by Zofia Wichłacz, Zbigniew Stryj and Mirosław Haniszewski.

Amok was produced by K & K Selekt in coproduction with TVN, Studio Produkcyjne Orka and Kino Świat with a budget of 2.8 m EUR / 12 m PLN. The film received a production grant of 471,864 EUR / 2 m PLN from the Polish Film Institute.

Shooting took place in Wrocław in June 2016. The film was released in Polish cinemas by Kino Świat on 24 March 2017 with 140,021 admissions so far.
