WARSAW: Izabela Kiszka-Hoflik has been appointed Acting Director of the Polish Film Institute by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Ministry announced the news in a statement published on its official website, which stated that Izabela Kiszka-Hoflik will occupy the post of Acting Director until a new Director is chosen in a competition. The Ministry dismissed Magdalena Sroka as Director earlier this month despite protests from the Polish film industry.

Izabela Kiszka-Hoflik has been active at the Institute since 2005. She worked on international co-operation and promotion of Polish cinematography at the International Co-operation Department, which she later on headed in 2010-2015. Since 2016 she was the Head the Film Production Department. Izabela Kiszka - Hoflik is a member of the European Film Academy.

Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage decided to dismiss Magdalena Sroka as the Director of the Polish Film Institute on 9 October 2017, due to an alleged breach of her professional responsibilities. Polish film organisations and associations sent an open letter to Piotr Gliński Minister of Culture and National Heritage on 12 October 2017 to voice their concern about the termination of Magdalena Sroka as Director of the Polish Film Institute. The letter was signed by 700 representatives of the Polish film industry to date.
