BERLIN: Katarzyna Lewinska was among the first seven winners announced for the European Film Awards.
Lewinska won the European Costume Designer 2017 award for Spoor directed by Agnieszka Holland. The Polish/German/Swedish/Czech/Slovak coproduction is also Poland’s official entry for the Oscar. The film was produced by TOR Film Production in coproduction with Heimatfilm GmbH (Germany), Chimney Group (Sweden) and Nutprodukce (Czech Republic), nutprodukcia (Slovak Republic). It was supported by the Polish Film Institute, the Czech State Cinematography Fund, Eurimages, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, the MEDIA Programme and the Polish-German Co-Development Fund.
The jury said in its statement: “The simplicity and clarity of the costumes intensify the images and underline the substantial message of the film. The clash between the human element and the natural environment is reflected in the texture, the colours and the design of the costumes, at the same time contributing to the personality of the characters and giving them life. They form an integral part of the storytelling, along with all the other visual elements, and together they create a powerful viewing experience.”
